2008 August Sweden Stockholm

21-24 Aug 2008 Angby Camping

Bought Flybussarna Airport Bus tickets to get to town and got there in 40 minuts. From the bus terminal, it took 10 minutes ti get to T-Centralen station to get train to Angbyplan which was easy enough.
From the Angbyplan station, it was reasonably long way to get to the camping site, especially with two toddlers on tow.
Very basic yet quite cheap accommodation option it was, so understandably there was no bedding apart from sheet for mattresses. Communal coin operating shower and toilet weren't the most convenient with little children, but at least there was tiny cooking facility on the corner of the cabin.

The surrounding area is very relaxing and right inside nature, so children found themselves at home straightaway, picking blueberries, climbing trees, etc.

There is a big lake right behind the camping site where children can spend all day exploring.

Also pleasant easy walking path around the site gives a sense of what would be like to live in one of the Nordic countries like Sweden.

Even in August, it was too cold for us to brave ourselves to jump in the water.

Maybe this is true face of Nordic country.
Suddenly, dark cloud move in fast with downpour.
Everybody got soaked wet when we found a pub.

Thankfully, one of the bar staff brought out blankets for children.

Headed for town next day to have a proper look around, but the weather was very changeable. I thought we were escaping bad weather in London, but we were in the wrong place.

Children don't really care about bad weather, so we were going to have a good time regardless.

It's normally the case to travel in big cities with children that we don't necessarily appreciate magnificent attractions, because it's easier to enjoy the very moment we are together as a family new place in the world to share the experiences.
There are many attractions slightly older children will enjoy but at this stage it's not really easy to entertain them at the same time as any meaningful and educational experience.  So we decided to walk around Galma stan area to soak up the atmosphere of the city.

You don't get to see gigantic sized ferry through narrow street like this very often. Stockholm is called Northern European version of Venice for this kind of view, I guess. Unlike most major cities in the world where rivers go right across, Stockholm is situated in a place where the Baltic sea and the lake Malaren meet.
Just from a day's walk around the town, it didn't feel much special compared to other European cities.
The royal family still exist. But having lived in London for a while it wasn't much of selling point.
Coming back from Paris the week before, Stockholm couldn't really match romantic side of Paris. Compared to Barcelona's Gaudi amazing architecture, this city couldn't beat it either.

It would've been nice if we were lucky enough to have good weather to do more of appreciating wonderful nature of it. Well, it's always nice to leave a reason to come back.

Quite enjoyable place to window shop. Brilliant design and souvenirs though pretty dear.

From Ostermalmstorg station, we happened to walk into a nice looking building which turned out to be a market.

A Swedish friend took us to a wonderful local restaurant, about 5 minutes from Slussen station.
