The next day we'd thought of heading to the Northwest corner of Bali, but as we had to return the car by 6 pm, and it was going to be around a 5 hr return journey, we chose to return to Sendai beach in Sanur instead as it was only an hour or so each way.
We were soon in Sanur near the turn off to the beach when we were pulled over by a police bike. Confident we hadn't done anything wrong I wondered what was in store for us.
Turns out it was because we weren't wearing our seat belts, and initially he was trying to fine us 250 k each. Negotiated this down to 250k, explaining we were not aware of the rule and the hire car firm hadn't told us.
Knowing their reputation for corruption we weren't surprised that he wanted cash and wouldn't give is a receipt.
He got a bit upset when we tried to photo his bike number plate and started threatening to take us to the court in Denpasar.
As we had to leave the next day we decided to just pay up in the end otherwise we would have gone to the court just to deprive him of the bribe even if it cost more.
Very annoyingly, but we headed for the beach, having discussion with the kids about corrupt police.
Ruby had the idea that we could put a sticker on his back saying 'corrupt police', which would have been great if it could have!
At the beach after a swim, and for me a 150k half our massage(very painful deep tissue one!), we forgot about the bent copper.
It was a very low tide after a couple of hours so we could walk out toward the offshore reef.
There were a few interesting thing like a nemo about 3 mm long swimming amongst the tentacle of a large sea anemone, a small puffer fish and some strange sea slug thins with squid like tentacles at the end.
Back at Ubud, we took the girls for a swim at the Ubud Alam hotel just up the road from the homestay. It's a very lash expensive place set on the side of the valley with stunning views, and a lovely infinity pool overlooking it.
A heavy downpour didn't diminish the girls' enjoyment at the pool as we sat with a couple of Bintangs(40k each!).
Apparently this hotel starts from something like $260 US per night!
Back at the homestay the guys turned up to get the car no problem.
We spent some time talking to our hosts and their daughter, and some of her young friends who were all dressed up for their celebrations.
Next morning we had some nice food prepared as part of the celebrations, and aournd 11am our car we'd arranged with the hosts(100k to Padangbai) arrived and we said our goodbyes.
