We bought a few bananas with the tickets and we were immediately accousted by some of the Macaques hanging around the entrance. Most of the bananas had been snatched from me and the kids within a few yards, but I managed to hold on to a few despite them climbing up my leg and along my arm.
I just gave them up pretty quickly though because monkeys always make me a bit nervous and I didn't want to get bitten.
It was a very pleasant environment to walk around and really amusing to watch the monkeys antics, trying to pick pocket people, grabbing water bottles, and huge scraps between the big males and smaller ones. There was definite hierarchy with the the biggest males beating everyone up, the smaller males trying to do the same but getting mobbed by dozens of the smaller ones and having to run off.
The mothers with small babies hanging off them cleverly stayed clear of most of this and concentrated on getting bananas or Rambutan from the tourists.
One of the local guides in the temple had trained some of the monkeys and they'd climb up and sit on your head for some food, so Ruby nervously tried it.
Eunmi got caught up in one of the major scraps and was trapped there for the exit there for a while looking a but freaked out.
As we made for the exit there was a pond and fountain that the monkeys were playing. There was a upright branch at one side that the climb on and leap into the water.Something I'd never seen was the monkeys actually swimming along underwater.
It was hilarious when one came up splutting after taking in some water.
And the'd play fight in the water too, rolling about mostly submerged.
