2013 Indonesia, Bali, Sanur, Sendai beach

22.3.2013

We made a relaxed start and eventually left the hotel just before the 12:00 checkout, to head toward Ubud where we intended to spend a few days. It is in the upland part of the island about 45 km away so I settled into local driving style, ducking and diving amongst the bike, people, cars, buses and trucks. At one point I made the mistake of letting a car in front from a small side road, and as a result there must have been 30 bikes and 10 or more cars coming out continuously, so I had to then push very hard to get going again. After maybe 20-30 mins we saw a sign for Sendai beach so we decided to escape the traffic and check it out.

It turned out to be quite nice. We found a park right near the beach and grabbed some fresh rambutans at a little shop to take with us.
The beach was reasonably clean and had a few small outrigger type boats parked along it, and hardly any people.
We found a nice little shade tree and set up so we could go in for a swim. The water was absolutely wonderful. Ruby and Ellie were joined in the water bu a young local boy and they were in there for maybe 1-2 hours before they came out saying they were hungry of thirsty. We bought some food from a lade who carried big plastic crate of food on her head. She sat down and served up spring rolls, tofu and some chilly and a lovey sauce, INR 5000 per serving. very nice!
After being hassled a bit by people trying to sell boat trips (1 hr, 350-500K INR), they left us in peace, and we variously swam and relaxed.

Later a noisy and boisterous group of around 6 young local boys arrived, singing away at the top of their voices and huge beaming smiles. They all went in for a swim and one had a small spear gun to try and get some fish. Don't think they got any though.
After asking nicely, which soon moved to threats of no treats, we managed to get the girls out and changed so we could continue the journey to Ubud, as it was now around 4 pm and it gets dark early in the tropics. The local boys by this time had come out and were climbing the trees behind us. They were highly amused  watching Eunmi getting changed.
